Archiving the Digital

Amidst all the fretting and debate about the imminent impact of delivering books (or book-like content) to readers digitally, this story at the NY Times looks at a related question… How do we handle literary archives that exist in other-than-paper forms?

I remember a discussion last summer with an archivist friend and she was concerned with some of the same issues raised in the article: the potential for loss through tech obsolescence, accidental alteration or deletion, storage and display questions. It’s going to be an interesting area to watch in the next little while.

Enjoy!
